Summer 2009 Sketch Tour

After a Winter and Spring of plein air painting, I'm getting ready for the Summer road trip. We are traveling from Delray Beach up to Cape Cod, MA for July and then on to Vermont's Northeast Kingdom (NEK) for July; visiting art museums and painting all the way.

Some of the museums we hope to visit are Jacksonville Museum of Contemporary Art. That will be our first museum as the journey begins.As we get up to D.C. we will be visiting the National Galley of Art. I just love it there and it has been too long since I have had a chance to visit. Then it is on to CT to visit friends and family and take a day trip into NYC and visit MOMA and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

In Brewster there will be lots of time for painting and enjoying the Cape. I'll be hooking up with my cousin who will be visiting and an artist friend I met through the classes at Cultural Arts Center in Delray Beach to do some outdoor landscape painting. We will be a week in Boston before heading to VT so of course we will visit the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. I used to go there often when I was in college as it was just a few blocks away from campus. Also hope to visit the DeCordova Museums and Sculpture Park in Lincoln MA and the Currier Museum of Art in Manchester, NH.

Up in NEK there will be ample time to paint and I hope to visit the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, Vermont. I'm pondering getting an MFA through their studio program that offers a degree in conjunction with Johnson State College. I love the idea of doing a residency there. On the way home at the end of August I want to stop at the Normon Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, MA. We will also take the inland route so I can draw or paint in the Blue Hills.
